From iain.henderson at mydex.org Wed Dec 3 01:40:46 2008 From: iain.henderson at mydex.org (Iain Henderson) Date: Wed, 3 Dec 2008 09:40:46 +0000 Subject: [Sig-vpi] Meeting This Week & Draft Use Case Documentation Message-ID: <57098196-9D2F-44DD-B77F-A41A3484A562@mydex.org> Hi Folks, We are due to have our next call tomorrow, see wiki for details of time and numbers. http://wiki.projectliberty.org/index.php/VolunteeredPersonalInformationSIG I've not had any concrete suggestions back for use case documentation formats so I have made up one of our own with VPI and VRM specific context; have a look and we can discuss on the call whether need to include anything else. I've also attached the storyboard format that i'm proposing we use when we have identified some target scenarios that we wish to explain to a wider audience; this Word version should be more readable than the PPT version sent before. On the call, i'd like to start to get into some detailed work on use cases. Bill, will you be able to walk us through your recent 'vacation buying' scenario? I'll get into my own recent car buying scenario. Talk to you tomorrow. Iain +44 7803 929 603 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I've had some medical issues that delayed by getting back to everyone... Here's a quick overview of the Italy trip and I'm happy to elaborate on what is of any value for our purposes. Italy trip (June 2008) My friend and I decided last December to plan a trip to Italy Decisions to make: a) Airline b) Stop over city c) Arrival city d) itinerary around Italy (Venice, Florence, Assisi, Spoletto (sp?), Pompeii, Positano) e) modes of transportation between locations f) specific locations to stay (hotels, B&Bs, etc.) g) type(s) of accommodation payment arrangements - Prepay or Deposit or ??? h) return city (since we wanted to arrive in northern Italy and travel to the southern parts we didn't want to arrive and return from the same location) Obviously there dozens of subsidiary questions to decide with every heading. We did this entirely on our own without any outside help/advisers/agents. We had a fabulous trip and we made some spectacularly good choices. Put we invested boatloads of time to do this and we have no idea if we could have saved a lot of time and money if we had had the "involvement" of say an airline or car rental company or hotel chain. I hope this is useful for starting. cheers, -bill On Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 1:40 AM, Iain Henderson wrote: > Hi Folks, > > We are due to have our next call tomorrow, see wiki for details of time and > numbers. > > http://wiki.projectliberty.org/index.php/VolunteeredPersonalInformationSIG > > I've not had any concrete suggestions back for use case documentation > formats so I have made up one of our own with VPI and VRM specific context; > have a look and we can discuss on the call whether need to include anything > else. This document now contains: - an overview of an actual car buying process as do-able now with current tools, processes and information sources (I think this is much the same for many semi-complex purchases but we can discuss that). - a diagramatic and then tabular visualisation of the 'dance' being done between buyer and seller as the processes unfolds, along with comment/ examples of the guesswork and waste for each party (not definitive). - some thoughts on the tools I would require to improve the buying/ selling process with a VPI approach; these are written from the buyer perspective at present but i'll add the seller perspective when I get a minute. I will not be able to host the call this week, my wife is having a baby any time now and i'm in last minute practice. Bill Washburn has kindly agree to host the call so by all means carry on with the dialogue on use cases. It would be good to: - build out a few more use cases over and above the car buying one, and Bill's vacation one. - discuss the extent to which the issues and areas of guess work and waste are common across all products and services, or where the splits would be. - focus most on building out the user description version of 'the tools i'd need to improve things'. The call will be at the usual time on Thursday and usual numbers. http://wiki.projectliberty.org/index.php/VolunteeredPersonalInformationSIG If you have any questions or comments in advance of the call by all means iterate by e-mail to the group. I'll answer if I can, otherwise Bill will pick them up and i'll catch up. I'll be back for the following call, which by my reckoning should be Thursday 8th Jan. And if I don't speak to you beforehand - have a good x'mas and New Year break. I'm telling the SIG this because I remember Iain being interested in this "change of address" VPI use case in previous discussions. I am about to go through all the hundreds of steps that it takes to move and I'm happy to share this with the SIG if that will be useful for building out the "change of address" VPI use case. You might want to have a look at this UK site/ service as a reference point; it is reasonably good although still seller-centric and funds itself by selling your data to advertisers. In the next call we should discuss our use case documentation formats to a conclusion then keep building out the examples - I think my start point can be build out with elements of your MRD document. I'm going to do another one for our recent 'having a child' experience, that is if I still have any energy left from the mayhem that has ensued. That use case will be good for getting into the government and health sector side of things - registering the birth, child tax credits, NHS records etc. Cheers Iain On 28 Dec 2008, at 16:13, Brett McDowell wrote: > Over the holidays I have *finally* "sold" my house and "purchased" a > new one (the quotes are to indicate nothing is final until the two > closings take place on Feb 6).
